When it comes to alcoholic beverages, wine is a time-tested and worldwide favorite. With a variety of flavor profiles to choose from, you’re always sure to find exactly what you’re craving. The next time you’re ready to pick up a bottle, consider choosing rose. This delicate, elegant option is a delicious and unique mix of a white and a red that's bound to please any wine drinker.

What Is Rose?

Rose is the perfect blend of red and white wine, as it gets some color from grape skins, but it doesn't get enough to be considered a red. The drink is only stained for a few hours, giving the winemaker complete control over the level of saturation the beverage gets before the skins are removed.

How Is It Made?

Rose wine can be made in a few different ways.

The first is known as bleeding, which involves the grapes being stacked in a tank. This process adds weight and pressure, causing the juice to bleed out.

The second is known as pressing. In this case, the winemaker simply presses the grapes until they achieve the desired color.

The most common method is called limited maceration. This technique requires winemakers to place the grapes in a vat of white wine, allowing the juice to soak until it has saturated to the desired level.

The final method of creating rose is known as the run-off process. In this case, the winemaker removes the juice from a tank of red wine, using the excess to create rose.
