It may be tempting to stop waxing once the temperature drops. While you probably won’t be donning a bikini for the next six months, there are other reasons to maintain your waxing routine during the winter. For example, continuous waxing reduces hair growth. As such, each session is easier than the last — and less painful — since your hair follicles are thinner. Skin is also easier to exfoliate and moisturize when it’s hairless, so you won't have to combat dry, scaly skin that usually accompanies the cold weather. To reap the benefits of winter waxing, just keep the following tips in mind.

How to Make the Most of Your Winter Waxing Routine

1. Exfoliate Often

Exfoliating often will help remove dead skin cells so your skin remains as smooth as possible for as long as possible after every wax. It will also prevent ingrown hairs, thereby eliminating a considerable amount of pain, discomfort, and irritation that might otherwise accompany each waxing session.

2. Apply Sunblock

waxingIt’s easy to overlook sunblock during the colder months. However, protecting your skin from the sun’s harmful rays is important regardless of the temperature. If you get waxed, apply a moisturizer that contains SPF will prevent redness and irritation during the first 24 hours after the appointment. This is especially true for patches of skin that are exposed, like the upper lip and brow areas.

3. Monitor Length

You might schedule your sessions like clockwork during the summertime, but in the winter months, it’s wise to track the length of your hair instead of the number of weeks that have passed since your last appointment. In the cold, dry air, pores are constricted, which subsequently hinders hair growth. As such, you’ll inevitably need to wait longer between waxes because the hair needs to be at least an eighth of an inch for best results.
