A walk-in closet can provide a lot of storage space. Skillful organization will allow you to boost that extra space in a way that ensures it looks attractive and provides easy access to items you need. Follow these organizational tips to make the most of every cubic foot in your closet.

How to Organize Your Walk-In Closet

1. Strategic Rod Placement

Use a double-rod closet organizer. This places two rods along the length of the wall, one over the other. The top rod should be 80 inches off the floor, with the bottom rod 40 inches off the floor. The top rod should hold blouses and sweaters, while the bottom rod is meant for pants.

For longer items that can’t be folded over a hanger, have a third rod that’s placed 60 inches off the floor. This can hold dresses, suits, and long coats.

2. Sorted Hampers

Hampers also fit in nicely inside of drawers, where they’re tucked out of sight. Include at least two hampers so you can separate your clothes into colors and whites.

3. Vertical Shoe Arrangement

If you have a lot of shoes or other accessories such as purses, they can be stored on shelves all the way to the ceiling. You likely have some that you wear more often, so place those closer to the floor or at eye level.

These shelves should be around 6 to 7 inches apart, with larger cubbies for tall boots that you don’t want to fold over.
