You use your shower every day, and it’s vulnerable to a range of plumbing problems. If your shower isn’t functioning properly, there are steps you can take to identify the problem and prevent it from worsening. Here are a few common issues and how you can manage them before a professional arrives.

What’s Wrong With My Shower?

1. Clogged Drain

Shower drains clog easily due to hair, hygiene products, and soap scum collecting inside the pipe. A plumbing contractor can snake the drain to remove debris and restore water flow. To keep your pipe clear, use a mesh drain cover and clean it out after every shower.

2. Inconsistent Water Temperature

plumbingAsk a plumber to adjust the settings on your water heater if your shower isn’t producing hot water. If this doesn’t solve the problem, you may have an issue with the mixing valve or shower knobs or a leak in the water heater tank.

3. Low Water Pressure

Weak or low pressure is likely the result of scale buildup in and on the showerhead. Minerals in the water cling to the surface of your pipe and create a buildup, which can inhibit water flow. To treat it, combine equal parts white vinegar and water in a plastic bag, then tie the bag over the showerhead, submerging it. Wait an hour, then remove the bag and run hot water through the head. If this solution doesn’t fix your pressure problem, ask your plumber to change the fixture.
