When windows have reached the end of their lifespan, they’ll exhibit some clear signs of wear. If you know what to look for, it will be easy to recognize when it’s time for a window replacement. Each of the red flags below tells you that the current windows are on their way out.

When to Get a Window Replacement

1. Drafts

The seals around aged windows will begin to fail, while older windows aren’t as insulative as newer models. This results in an uncomfortable draft inside each window of the home. The temperature change becomes apparent when you stand beside the window. It may also be cold to the touch, even with more than one pane.

2. Foggy Panes

Moisture from the air will get into that space, creating condensation that can’t be wiped away. Over time, the minerals and dirt in the moisture will accumulate on the inside of the window, giving it a foggy appearance.

3. Don’t Move or Stay Put

Window sashes are designed to move smoothly on their tracks and stay put when you leave it open a certain amount. If your windows are getting stuck when you try to open or close them, or won’t stay open when you move the sash up, then they require repair. The frame or sash may be broken, warped, or otherwise damaged.

If your panes are foggy, but the windows are otherwise in good condition, the team at The Glass Guru of Central Ohio, located in Newark, can restore them. They also offer window replacement for those older, irreparable cases. They are also equipt to work on skylights, mirrors, and much more.
