Dental implants are among the best solutions for missing or damaged teeth. But to get the best results, you’ll need to stick to some essential practices after the procedure. Follow these instructions alongside your surgeon’s guidelines.

Do:

Rest.

Your body needs to rest following any surgery. If possible, take a few days off work. Relax at home, avoid the gym, and sleep as needed. Your body can then focus on healing the surgical site, and you’re less likely to experience troublesome side effects like bleeding, swelling, and discomfort.

Clean your mouth.

To prevent infection, you’ll have to clean the surgical site. For the first day, just rinse with salt water to remove bacteria. Afterward, brush softly around the dental implant.

Going forward, you’ll need to care for the implant just like you do your natural teeth. Your dentist can advise on when to return to your regular dental care routine.

Don’t:

Eat the wrong foods.

Eat only soft, lukewarm foods in the first few days. Steamed vegetables and fruit smoothies will deliver vitamins and minerals to assist with recovery.

Smoke or drink.

Smoking and drinking can significantly impair your recovery. They may increase your risk of infection, and smoking will inevitably stain the dental implants. Avoid both until you’re fully healed.
