Used in industries ranging from agriculture to water treatment, agitators are important pieces of equipment that can separate sediment from a variety of fluids. However, a water agitator is not a one-size-fits-all piece of equipment. Below is an overview of how agitators are used in the industrial sector and the different varieties you can choose from.

Understanding Water Agitators

What Are Water Agitators?

Water agitators mix water thoroughly to naturally separate sediment from clean water. Agitators are especially useful in water treatment, since water needs to be agitated to remove initial dirt, debris, and sludge from water, and then agitated again with special flocculation agents that cling to microscopic sediment.

water treatmentAfter the water is flocculated, it is allowed to rest in slow-moving pools to let sediment fall out of the water, and then it is agitated again before moving through filters to screen very fine particulates such as bacteria.

What Types of Agitators Are Available?

Different types and styles of agitators are available to allow you to customize water or fluid treatment for your business. In addition to vertical tanks with clamp-on mixer attachments, there are also agitators designed to have small freestanding mixers, as well as agitators with interior baffles mounted to the side walls to generate even more agitation.

Larger agitators may either have bridges across the top with a mounted mixer, or open-top mixer bridges to allow workers to add additional products during the agitation process. Some agitators are even designed with a magnetic bar at the bottom to create a fluid vortex when exposed to a magnet field, while others have a series of built-in pumps to move fluids to and from the tank.
