Hawaiian Kona Prime

Our 100% Kona Prime coffee is a powerful, richly acidic representative of this bean with an indescribable full-bodied mouthfeel that justifies its price. It is produced by Lions Gate Farms, a 15-acre working farm in South Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii. Coffee has been farmed at Lions Gate for over a century and they process their coffee in the original mill that dates to 1942. We are so lucky to be able to source this coffee DIRECTLY from our friends at this legendary farm.

Ethiopian Guji Uraga - Top Lot

This is an Ethiopian indigenous heirloom variety characterized by strong citric acidity (see the cupping notes), sweet chocolate and floral/herbal notes of lavender, jasmine, bergamot & hops. It boasts a cupping score of 86!

Our customer and home-roaster extraordinaire Bruce R. turned us onto this fantastic bean, and he was kind enough to share his roast process with us - click the link for roasting details.

About the Yemen crisis and our Mocha Java Blend

As many of you know, conflicts in Yemen have driven up the cost of the highest grade of Yemen Haraaz AA+ beans by 40-50% over the last few years. We use only Yemen Haraaz AA+ and Java Estate from micro-lots, thereby ensuring the ongoing quality of this blend.

We've observed the industry succumb to the temptation to use lesser grades of Yemen, or lower quality and cheaper Indonesian beans, and still call it "Mocha Java".

But we won't do that. Our Mocha Java is blended with the same highest graded beans we've always used. We're working creatively to keep prices low, while still guaranteeing our customers, and the good farmers from this region, a fair price. We wanted you to understand our decision process as you notice a modest price increase for this unique blend.

Mother Earth News Fair - recap

Thank you for your patience while we were vending at the Mother Earth News Fair in Topeka, Kansas October 19th and 20th, 2019. We had a wonderful time and were able to spread the home-roasting love to many great people.

This is an amazingly good selection! Colombian Caturra "Hydro Honey" from Elkin Guzman is easily the tastiest coffee I've roasted in quite a while. I followed U-Roast-Em's suggestion to roast it slowly, and pulled it just as the second crack began. Sweet! I could hardly wait to share this with my wife and select coffee-loving friends. I often avoid Colombian coffee and relegate it in my mind to "run of the mill", but I'll admit I was anxious to try this. The combination of coffee growing experience and an innovative process made it sound special, and indeed it is! My first inclination is to fill my cart and stock up while this is still available, but perhaps it's more kind to leave a review and recommend this to other coffee enthusiasts. In any case, I hope Mr. Guzman will be encouraged to continue innovating great coffees for us all!
