Moving in winter brings with it some unique challenges, especially when it comes to your outdoor furniture. These items are completely exposed to the elements, so they’ll require some special preparation before your movers arrive. The guide below explains what steps to take.

How to Ready Your Outdoor Living Decor for Moving Day

1. Clean It Off

denver moversOutdoor furniture tends to collect debris you don’t want to transfer to your other items or bring to your new home. Clean off dirt using a leaf blower or a broom. Check the corners and underneath for spiderwebs, critters, and other dirt. Plastic furniture can be pressure washed on a low setting.

2. Disassemble Larger Items

Large items that can be easily taken apart should be disassembled. This will make them easier to carry without damage. Remove any glass or other breakable parts and wrap them carefully with a “FRAGILE” notice written on them.

3. Cover Furniture

After you’ve prepared the furniture, move it into a covered space such as under a patio cover or into the garage. If you can’t do that, then cover it with a tarp or plastic wrap. This will keep rain or snow off of it, so it won’t get your other items in the truck wet.

4. Pack Plants

Place plants into lined boxes with ventilation holes. Tie up plants in the direction that the branches are already growing. Include an arrow on the boxes so they will be kept with the right side up.
