As the seasons change, how you maintain the landscaping around the property needs to change too. Fall requires special tree care to prepare  them for the upcoming cold winter months. Invest in these tree services to protect your trees and property.

Fall Tree Care Checklist

1. Prune

When the snow and ice storms start to roll in, weakened or damaged tree limbs are much more likely to snap off and cause costly property damage. Fall is the perfect time to take care of tree pruning and trimming. Afterward, remove any limbs and fallen leaves to avoid attracting insects.

2. Apply New Mulch

Tree CareBeyond providing the nutrients they need to survive the winter, a new layer of mulch around your trees gives them extra insulation that protects their root system from the cold weather. Apply the mulch in a two to three-foot radius around the trunk at a depth of two to four inches.

Don’t put the mulch directly against the trunk, which makes fungus growth more likely. Leave at least six inches of space between the trunk and mulch.

3. Water Now

Watering trees in the fall ensures they have ample amounts to rely on during the upcoming drier months of winter. Using subsurface watering is especially effective; it involves injecting water up to 12 inches deep into the soil, providing hydration to the entire root system and keeping trees healthy throughout the winter.
