1. Prune

Don’t put the mulch directly against the trunk, which makes fungus growth more likely. Leave at least six inches of space between the trunk and mulch.

3. Water Now

Watering trees in the fall ensures they have ample amounts to rely on during the upcoming drier months of winter. Using subsurface watering is especially effective; it involves injecting water up to 12 inches deep into the soil, providing hydration to the entire root system and keeping trees healthy throughout the winter.
