Sending your little one to daycare may be the first time they spend long periods away from your side. This change can lead to anxiety during drop-off and throughout the day. Use this guide to prepare your child for the new adventure and make the transition easier.

How to Prepare Your Youngster for Daycare

1. Label Everything

Your little one may become nervous or confused if the teacher can’t locate their snack, personal item, change of clothes, or whatever else is tucked away in their backpack. Label all items to ensure their belongings don’t get mixed with their classmates’. Include their first and last names to avoid any confusion.

2. Visit the Center

daycareSchedule a tour of the daycare a few days before your youngster starts. This is the perfect opportunity for them to meet the teachers and become acquainted with the classroom and outdoor area. If your child has already been assigned a cubby-hole or storage nook, show them where they’ll put their belongings. Getting a firsthand look at where they’ll be spending time can relieve first-day jitters.

3. Pack a Comforting Item

Meeting new people and getting used to a different routine can be overwhelming for youngsters. To provide your child with a sense of security, put one of their belongings from home in their backpack. For example, holding a small blanket that smells like their bedroom can be soothing during naps. Additionally, having a familiar toy close by may make them more comfortable interacting with other kids during playtime.
