A faulty laser printer can interrupt workflow and cut down on the quality of your printouts. If yours is experiencing issues, you may need laser printer service. Before bringing your equipment in, however, here are a few troubleshooting tips to try.

Fixing 3 Common Laser Printer Problems

1. Jammed Roller

If jams and crumpled or wrinkled paper are regular problems, dust and debris are likely interfering with the printer roller. This cylinder is responsible for smoothly feeding paper through the machine. If particles prevent an even push, the paper will crunch against the tray or become jammed.

To correct this, open the top of the device and use compressed air to clean the roller.

2. Toner Trouble

First, remove the cartridge. Shake it a few times and blast it with compressed air to remove dust particles. Use the air on the surrounding cartridge housing as well, as dust could be interfering with how the toner adheres to the paper. After this, try to print again. If the problem persists, you may need to replace the cartridge.

3. Outdated Settings

Printers that suddenly slow down or have quality problems may simply need updating. First, enter the print quality menu and check the color and print density settings. These dictate the quality of the printed images.

If the equipment is slowing down for no apparent reason, do a hard reset by turning it off and unplugging it from the wall. If this doesn’t work, you can then check that the latest firmware is installed. Updating yours will often improve performance and solve common bugs.
