A slow or clogged drain in your bathroom sink can be incredibly inconvenient. Chemical drain cleaners can harm pipes, and complicated plumbing tools don’t often work unless used by trained professionals. However, there are some easy methods you can try with items you probably already have around your home if you’ve noticed that your bathroom sink is draining slowly or not at all.

3 Methods for Clearing a Clogged Drain

1. Combine Baking Soda & Vinegar

When baking soda and vinegar are mixed together, it creates a bubbling effect. When this occurs in your pipes, those bubbles start to loosen the hair and other items forming the clog. To use this method, mix equal parts of each ingredient and immediately pour them down the drain. Leave it alone overnight before flushing it all out with hot water.

If you think there’s a lot of soap buildup in your drain, and if the water seems to be moving slowly rather than stopped altogether, boil some water. Pour it down the drain to see if that breaks up the clog.

3. Use a Vacuum

If there’s a single item toward the top of the sink drain causing the clog, you might be able to remove it by using the hose attachment of a shop vacuum. Hold the nozzle tightly around the drain to provide the best suction. If it was an item of value, you may then be able to retrieve it from the vacuum's bag.
