Billiards is a great way to spend your evening at a bar with family or friends. However, the activity can be quite intimidating if you’re new to the sport. Like with any other game, billiards come with a certain set of etiquette guidelines. Here are several pool hall etiquette tips to keep in mind.

Etiquette for Playing Pool

1. Don’t Distract Other Players

When it’s another player’s turn to take a shot, you should stand out of the way and make as little noise as possible. If you talk too loudly or stand too closely to the other player, you could distract them. Show the other player respect by waiting for your turn quietly.

2. Avoid Eating or Drinking Near the Table

3. Don’t Make Excuses

While it doesn’t feel good to miss a shot in billiards, complaining about it will just aggravate the other players. Realize that everyone misses shots now and again, then continue playing the game.

4. Shake Your Opponent’s Hand

Even if you lose the game, look at your opponent in the eye and congratulate them on a good game. If you whine about losing or refuse to shake your opponent’s hand, you’ll be seen as a sore loser.
