Do: 

Downsize ahead of time. 

Go through your items and weed out what you no longer need. Hold a yard sale or donate unwanted items to charities, consignment shops, or homeless shelters. Unloading the excess items will make the packing process go quicker. 

Create a checklist.

Prepare for the move to your new home by setting up the utilities and cable and making sure your mail goes to your new address. During a move, it’s easy to forget these tasks, so create a list to ensure these get done. 

Label everything.

If your boxes are labeled, the movers know what room of the house to take your belongings to. This way, you don’t search the bedrooms for your kitchen items once you arrive at the new place.

Additionally, if items are packed too tightly together, they are more likely to break. Leave a couple of inches of room at the top of each box to allow items to shift as needed. 

Wait until the last minute.
