Gas kitchen appliances are reliable, long-lasting pieces of equipment, but occasionally you may need stove repair. If you don’t smell the gas when it’s on or you hear it hiss, there could be a problem. Here's what you should know about the most common issues.

A Guide to Common Stove Repairs

1. Weak Flame or Lack of One

Stove RepairYour stove relies on an ignition switch to spark and light the flame when you turn the unit on. The switch makes repeated clicking noises; if you can't hear those sounds, then the component is faulty.

If the unit turns on, but there isn’t a flame, and you can’t smell gas, then there's a problem with the supply. The valve may be closed, the hose may not be connected correctly, or there may be a clog.

Finally, if you get a small flame, the issue might once again be a clog or partially closed valve. You can also adjust the air shutter to see if restricted airflow is the issue.

2. Noisy Flame

A slight hiss from your burner is normal and is the sound of the gas flowing through it. If you hear a louder roaring sound, the flame is getting too much gas or air. Once again, try adjusting the shutter to reduce airflow.

3. Gas Odor

If you can smell gas when the stove is off, take your family and leave the house because it may have a leak, which can lead to dizziness, shortness of breath, blurred vision, confusion, and loss of consciousness.
