Refrigerator breakdowns can lead to energy waste and food losses. There are several causes, many of which you can recognize. Knowing when to call a contractor for your residential and commercial refrigeration needs will minimize downtime. It will also ensure other problems don’t develop.

Common Reasons for Refrigerator Repairs

1. Minimal or No Cold Air

Home and commercial refrigeration units typically run between 37 and 41 degrees Fahrenheit. If yours isn’t producing enough cold air, first check the thermostat. It may have simply gotten turned up. Next, check that it’s plugged in, and remove anything that may be blocking the vents that blow cold air into the unit. There may also be buildup on the condenser coils behind the unit. Clean around your fridge. If this doesn’t work, the evaporator or condenser fan may be broken, which will require a repair professional.

2. Too Much Cold Air

To ensure it’s functioning correctly, turn it to the highest temperature and listen for a click. This means it’s communicating correctly with the compressor. If this doesn’t work, there may be a problem with the electrical and temperature board. This requires the expertise of a repair professional.

3. It’s Loud

Home and commercial refrigeration units make occasional noise, but it may mean there are obstructions in the fans when it becomes loud and constant. Disconnect the power supply, and look for debris or buildup. If the fan isn’t turning on itself, then it may be broken.
