A newborn photo shoot can help you capture the precious memories of your child's first months of life, but if you aren't prepared, the photos may not turn out the way you imagined. Baby photography is challenging because infants are sensitive, and any number of problems could make them fuss or cry just when you want to snap your photos. To make your photography session a success, keep these tips in mind.

How Can You Make a Baby Photo Shoot Go Smoothly?

1. Don't Change Your Schedule

Your child won't react well if you change their feeding schedule, and fussiness from hunger is likely to disrupt the shoot. Schedule around your child's needs if you can; if not, talk to your photographer ahead of time about where you can feed your child in their studio. Providers who do baby photography will often have a space for this as well as extra blankets and towels.

2. Pack What You Need

Baby PhotographyExtra diapers and wipes are a must; a baby in a dirty diaper can make a mess in the studio and is less likely to be in a happy mood. A diaper cover is always appreciated to prevent the need for cleaning.

Bring a burp cloth as well, and if you aren't nursing, bring bottles and formula.

3. Let Your Photographer Know About Other Participants

If you want to be in your baby's pictures, or you want a shot of them with siblings or the whole family, let your photographer know in advance. Toddlers present their own set of challenges for photographers, so your provider will want to prepare.

Meanwhile, make sure you and anyone else who will be in the photos wear coordinating clothing. Solid-colored tops are best for everyone.
