Heading off to kindergarten is an exciting time for young children—a milestone toward becoming a “big” kid. As a parent, you want to do everything you can to push them towards academic and social success. To make sure they receive all the benefits of their early education, consider implementing the following.

How to Help Your Child Get the Most Out of Kindergarten?

1. Develop a Bedtime Regimen

Kindergarten-aged children require approximately 10 to 13 hours of sleep each day. Ensure your kids are getting to sleep on time by creating a consistent routine leading up to bedtime. Turn off all screens an hour before they should be asleep. Help them wind down by having them take a warm bath, followed by brushing their teeth and putting on their pajamas. Consider sitting with them and reading a book together as they fall asleep.

2. Provide a Healthy Breakfastkindergarten

After a good night of sleep, your kid needs to refuel with a healthy breakfast. Skipping this meal can leave them feeling tired and irritable for the rest of the day. However, what they eat is also important. Try to choose foods that are rich in whole grains, fiber, and protein while also being low in sugar. Some worthwhile options are whole-grain waffles, low-sugar cereal, yogurt, smoothies, and fresh fruit.

3. Communicate With Their Teachers

Keep the lines of communication open with your child’s kindergarten teacher. This allows the two of you to work as a team to figure out the best ways to teach your child and helps you both understand any frustrations or difficulties that might be keeping them from learning.

4. Reinforce School Lessons at Home

Kids learn better and retain information easier when they are excited. You can help them stay enthusiastic about their daily lessons by asking questions about what they learned and reinforcing this information by helping them to use it. For example, if they are learning new words, point them out when they appear in newspapers or on mail or signs.
