Fiberglass is an inexpensive material for bathtubs and offers a wide range of attractive options to fit your bathroom design. Unfortunately, the material also scratches easily. To keep your tub glaze looking beautiful and new, follow these cleaning instructions.

How to Wash Your Fiberglass Bathtub

1. Soak, Don't Scrub

If anything is stuck to the sides of your tub, scrubbing it will wear down the bathtub's finish and leave scratches. It's an easy mistake to make if you're used to porcelain tubs, which are more scratch-resistant. Instead of scrubbing the spot, pour some cleaner on it, then let it soak. Once the spot loosens, you should be able to wipe it off.

2. Use the Right Materials

BathtubSince fiberglass is resilient against most household chemicals you can use any all-purpose or bathroom cleaner. Your choice of tools is more important. Use a soft cloth or sponge, and avoid anything hard or abrasive, such as scrub brushes or scouring pads.

3. Apply Acetone

Some stubborn spots that don't respond to all-purpose cleaners will dissolve right off the tub if you apply nail polish remover. If your bathtub ends up stained with oil-based paint or adhesive after a home improvement project, use a cotton ball or sponge soaked in acetone to wipe it down. This also works for iodine stains, which could end up in your tub while you’re disinfecting a scrape.
