Achieving a white, radiant smile isn’t easy. When brushing and flossing aren’t enough to resolve stains and lingering problems, cosmetic dentistry may be the solution. Veneers are a popular and highly-accessible treatment, explained in greater detail below.

What Are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are porcelain covers that attach to the fronts of your teeth. They are primarily used to cover up deep stains from coffee, tobacco, wine, and other products.

This cosmetic dentistry practice can also be used to bridge small gaps or cover chips and cracks in your teeth. More extensive issues often require the use of dental crowns instead. Veneers are designed based on a mold of your mouth, and once in place, look completely natural.

What Does the Process Involve?

During your first session, the dentist will take a mold of your mouth. A dental lab will then craft the veneers so they fit perfectly over the teeth and adjacently to one another. During the application session, the front enamel layers of the target teeth will be ground down. This is so the veneers will be flush to one another. In some cases, they may use a local anesthetic to quell any discomfort from these proceedings.

You will need to brush and floss them at least twice a day, just as you would your normal teeth. Avoid chewing on your nails or on ice as this can cause the veneers to chip. Your dentist will check them over at each bi-annual appointment going forward.
