Many home chefs prefer cooking on gas stoves. Burners light up quickly for instant heat, while the steady flame allows for even cooking. As with any fuel-burning appliance, invest in professional cleaning and maintenance to prevent dangerous accidents. To automatically know when stove repair is necessary, below are a few common issues to keep on your radar.

3 Problems That Plague Gas Stoves

1. Burner Won’t Light

When you turn the knob, a cooktop burner might not ignite. This often Cincinnati-Ohio-stove-repairhappens when crumbs, dried oils, and additional gunk get stuck in the burner portholes. If you clean the holes, but the burner still won’t light, have a stove repair technician take a look. If the gas line is clogged, gas won’t flow to the burners. If you smell gas and hear a clicking sound but don’t see a flame, you might need a new switch for the valve shaft.

2. Flame Is Weak

If the burner does ignite but the flame isn’t as intense as usual, crud-covered portholes could also be to blame. For complete combustion, the fuel to air ratio must also be correct. If not enough air gets to a burner, you might need a new air shutter. Behind the burner gas valve, the sliding plate covers its air vent. A stove repair technician might need to replace the plate. It won’t move if it’s warped or broken, not allowing enough air to mix with the fuel.

3. Constant Clicking

Many gas stoves have electric ignitors. The clicking sound you hear when first turning a cooktop knob is the ignitor starting a burner. If the sound doesn’t stop after a few seconds, there could be an obstruction preventing the ignitor from sparking the burner. If the burner cap is not aligned properly, you might also hear a clicking sound that won’t stop.
