Looking good helps you feel more confident, but sometimes cosmetics don’t cut it. That’s why many women turn to facial cosmetic surgery and fillers for a quick way to achieve full lips. If you’re interested in exploring this possibility, here’s what you should know going into your first appointment.

What to Expect During Your First Lip Filler Appointment

1. It Might Sting a Bit

Lip fillers are injected through a small, thin needle. This might sound scary, but the needle is so small that you likely won’t feel much pain. In most cases, there will only be a slight stinging sensation and some initial pressure as the needle enters the skin.

2. Bruising, Bleeding, & Swelling Are Normal

Lip fillers penetrate the skin and apply pressure, so you’ll likely experience some bruising, bleeding, and post-injection swelling. These are normal reactions, but talk to your facial cosmetic surgery provider if the swelling doesn’t go away after a couple of weeks.

3. You May Need Multiple Injections

facial cosmetic surgeryLip fillers usually aren’t permanent. If you’re looking for large lips, then one session might not do it for you. The larger and more complicated your desired lips are, the more visits it’ll take to achieve your goals, usually with two to three weeks between injections. After six to 12 months, you may need another appointment to maintain your desired look.

4. Results Take Time

Some types of fillers can take up to two weeks to manifest their final results after the post-injection swelling has gone down. Give your filler time to settle before deciding you need another round.
