Moving can be very hectic with many boxes. Moving furniture can be dangerous around children, and their presence can slow the process down. For this reason, children need to be distracted and entertained during a move to stay out of the way. Here are five activities to keep children entertained during a move.

Keeping Kids Busy While Moving

1. Drawing

A fantastic way to keep your children occupied while your movers are moving furniture is to lay down some crayons and extra cardboard from your boxes and let them get creative. If they don’t often color on cardboard, this can be a new and exciting medium for them to play with.

2. Design Their New Space

Before moving, let your school-aged child map out their new space. Having them design their room on paper will give them a chance to feel ownership over their new room. You can also have them cut out pictures of department store bedding, lamps, and pillows, and glue them to a “mood board.”

3. Pack a Moving Day Kit

These should contain a stuffed animal or two, a change of clothes, their bedding, toiletries, and a few toys. Let your child pack their kit while you are packing up the rest of the house. This way, they’ll feel like they have an important task to do.

4. Packing Photos

While packing up picture frames or photos, quiz your toddlers by asking them who is in the images, and for your older kids, share a special memory from some of the photos. This will get your kids talking and interested in your packing project.

5. Packing Pots & Pans

Allow your toddler to practice stacking your pots and pans while you are packing up your kitchen. This way, they are in the same room, and you can keep your eye on them. Stacking these are a terrific way to learn spatial skills while still having fun.
