It doesn't take long for plaque on your teeth to harden into tartar, so you need to perform dental care every day. This can be a challenge when you're traveling, since your daily routine is disrupted and schedule is full. Here are a few tips to make it easier and more effective.

Dental Care Suggestions When You Travel

1. Keep Your Toothbrush Clean & Dry

Don't just throw your toothbrush into your suitcase; dirt and debris accumulate at the bottom of your bag and can cling to the bristles. It's best if you can put your toothbrush inside a container to protect it. Choose a case with ventilation to let the toothbrush dry out, or bacteria will start to form inside, making it even dirtier than the suitcase. When possible, let your toothbrush dry outside the case.

2. Follow a Routine

As much as possible, keep to a daily dental care routine. For example, if you usually brush right after dinner or before sleeping, have your toothbrush and paste available at those times. You may need to keep them in your carry-on, so pack a small travel toothpaste that you can take through airport security. Following your normal routine will make it easier to remember to brush twice a day.

3. Visit a Dentist Office Before You Go

Dental CareIf it's been a while since your last appointment or you're having tooth pain or other symptoms, get it checked out before the trip. Getting emergency dental care when you're away from home is difficult and will take up time you would rather spend sightseeing or getting work done. Schedule an appointment well in advance, so if there are any issues, like a cavity, the dentist can resolve them before you leave.
