If your bicycle tires aren't in good condition, you won't be able to enjoy a relaxing and safe ride. If you cycle regularly, the tires are one of the parts on your bike that you'll be replacing most often. Know when it's time to recycle your old tires and get new ones by following this guide.

When Should You Replace Your Bicycle Tires?

1. Cracked Edges

Cracking may occur when you used a tire past its lifespan, or when the tire is so old that the rubber is no longer viable. The cracks often appear on the sidewalls first and indicate that the rubber has lost its flexibility. Ignoring this could leave you with a dangerous blown tire at some point.

2. Worn Tread

bicycleIf your road tires come with a deep tread on them, you'll want to replace them once the tread wears down. The grooves in the rubber are what give you traction on the road. The tire's lifespan is over when you can barely discern the tread pattern.

3. Flat Center

A tire that's worn down will experience a change in its shape, which may be most noticeable if you compare it to a new one. If you don't have a new tire to look at, check the center of the wheel. This part will flatten out over time, giving the tire more of a square shape than a round one.

4. Exposed Casing

Once the tire has worn past its tread, the wear will continue to occur down to the casing. You may see the nylon threads or other materials through the hole in the rubber. You shouldn't ride on a tire in this condition, as it could be dangerous.
