Jalousie windows—also called louver windows—are common in homes in warmer regions like Hawaii. These windows allow air to flow through structures while blocking rain and direct sunlight. But while these windows are easy to open and close using a handle, the glass slats may prove difficult to clean. Here are some tips to follow whenever it's time to clean these windows.

How to Clean Jalousie Windows

1. Remove the Slats

Attempting to clean the glass slats while they’re still attached may only shift the dirt to other panels. Tilt the panels at a 45° angle, then carefully remove each slat and place it in a secure area.

2. Soak the Slats in a Detergent Solution

3. Rinse Each Panel

Thoroughly rinse each slat to remove all soap residue. Then carefully place each on a large towel.

4. Wipe Them Clean

Using a clean cotton rag, wipe both sides of each panel. Don’t use tissue paper, as it will leave small fibers on the glass. Next, lay them out to air-dry.

5. Carefully Return the Panels

Tilt the window again to return the slats into their holders. Check that each is screwed in properly, and do a final test by tilting the windows.
