Many couples buy a house when they’re expecting a baby. New amenities, location, and long-term goals all play into finding the ideal property. If you’re pregnant and you aren’t sure where to begin your home hunt, focus on these three ideas for the best results.

What to Look for When Buying a Home While Pregnant

1. Baby-Friendly Bathrooms

buy-a-house-des-peresKeeping your newborn clean is a must, but some homes only have showers. Look for a house with a tub because it will be more comfortable for your little one—shower jets can be too aggressive on a baby’s skin. You may also have a more difficult time holding and bathing them under the falling water. A bathtub also allows you to add a safe amount of water—roughly 2 inches. A warm, relaxing bath is also perfect when you need a personal moment away from your child. You don’t want to add these features yourself while raising a baby because they’re time-consuming.

2. Seamless Flow

You may spend a lot of time going back and forth from your baby’s room, so find a convenient home layout. You don’t want to go up and down staircases in the middle of the night or navigate long hallways. Find a multi-room home so you can have the nursery adjacent to your bedroom.

3. Good Location

You’ll need plenty of help when you first bring your baby home, so buy a house within 20 minutes of friends and family in case you need assistance. Think long-term as well; you’ll want a safe neighborhood where your child can play as they age, so drive around the area to see if it seems secure. Are there broken windows on houses? Do you notice children outside playing? The home should also be in a quality district when your child enters kindergarten, so search the local school system’s reviews online. Also, ensure there are highly rated daycare options nearby if you and your spouse will both be working.
