Mass Save Offers Free Home Energy Audits to Wellesley, Weston and Needham Homeowners

by JANE NEILSON

It is getting easier to be green! In Wellesley MA, we have our own Municipal Light Plant which provides some of its power from renewable energy sources Some of our power comes from a wind farm in Maine. Residents have the option of allocating a portion of their power from renewable sources at a very slight surcharge.

MassSave Made Me More Energy Efficient!

Last Spring, after completing a large addition on our Wellesley MA home, we decided to investigate other ways to save energy. We invited MassSave to provide our family with a free in-home energy assessment. (Did I mention this assessment was free?!)

After making an online request, I scheduled an appointment with an auditor for my Wellesley MA home. The auditor spent just a few hours inspecting our home for ways to make it more energy and cost efficient. After a complete inspection, the auditor made a list of recommendations. Since my home had a new addition and we had added blown-in insulation just a few years ago, we didn’t think our home had that much room for improvement. We learned, however, that a crawl space under our original mudroom/kitchen had room for improvement. The auditor gave recommendations for adding insulation and the cost was INCREDIBLY low due to incentives provided by MassSave. We were happy to schedule the work, and just as happy to have someone else crawl around the space adding insulation between the beams. (The workers were quite cheerful about it considering it was a nasty job in a very tight space!)

After the assessment, we had a report trumpeting our improvements which we were able to pass on to the new owners this Spring, and we felt good about leaving behind a home that was energy-efficient and thus better for the environment.

To see if you are eligible for a complimentary audit, visit www.MassSave.com and take the online assessment. You can also see what the current rebate programs are and how much you might receive in rebates!

The deal: In addition to crawl spaces, your auditor might recommend improvements to your appliances, heating and cooling systems, insulation, lighting fixtures and more. If you decide to make changes to your home MassSave will pay 75% up to $2,000 of approved insulation improvements, generous rebates on qualifying energy-efficient heating and hot water equipment and they offer the opportunity to apply for 0% financing for eligible improvements through the heat loan program.

This is a valuable way to reduce your energy costs as well as your carbon footprint.
