Whether you’re using Botox® to reduce wrinkles or treat migraines or issues with your bladder or sweat glands, the first 48 hours following the procedure are crucial. To ensure you get the most out of it, you must know the best steps to take for aftercare. A few tips in particular can make all the difference.

3 Tips for Botox Aftercare

1. Exercise the Muscles Lightly

While it’s imperative to avoid strenuous physical activity of any kind for at least 24 hours after the procedure, spending the first subsequent hour doing some light exercises with the muscles that you treated can help the Botox settle and spread. For example, if you got the injection in your eyebrows, move them up and down. If your face was treated, try frowning. Doing this will ensure that you get the best possible results.

2. Avoid Pressure & Heat

For 24 hours after the treatment, don’t apply pressure by rubbing or massaging the treated muscles, no matter how uncomfortable they feel. Otherwise, you could move the Botox to areas that weren’t meant to receive it. Don’t even nap on the muscles for at least three hours, and wait six hours before even touching or washing them, the latter of which you should only do with soap and water. The injection sites may also be red and swollen for as long as two weeks after the procedure. If that’s the case, don’t expose them to excessive heat or sunlight, as your skin is now more sensitive and could become painfully irritated.

3. Be Careful About What You Consume

BotoxSome people experience headaches after a Botox treatment. If that happens to you, feel free to take some Tylenol, but don’t use blood thinners, like ibuprofen, until you get approval from your doctor or cosmetic dermatologist. Otherwise, you may develop bruises. Alcohol can cause the same problem, so don’t drink any for at least one or two days following the procedure.
