New York City has numerous breathtaking outdoor spaces.Despite the bustling metropolis that it is, NYC has both urban and rustic backdrops for your family and engagement photography. If you’re planning a photo session this fall, below are a few special locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn to consider as backdrops.

NYC Locations for Family or Engagement Photos

1. SoHo

engagement photographyTrendy and artistically historic So Ho in Lower Manhattan is home to boutiques, restaurants and former art studios and galleries in blocks of historic cast-iron buildings. There are tons of cobblestone and ornate structures to pose in front of to create and elegant and fashionable portrait of Campbell and Linda Evagelista posed in the streets from the 90’s. To add vivid color and originality to your family or engagement photography, stand in front of an illuminated cafe sign or one of the many large mural paintings on the sides of the buildings. To include the rich fall colors in your photos, visit nearby Washington Square Park, or the Highline.

2. Brooklyn Bridge Park

engagement photographyThe Big Apple boasts many iconic structures, including the Brooklyn Bridge. Travel to Brooklyn Bridge Park, located on the Brooklyn side, where your engagement or family photographer can take snapshots. The awe-inspiring scale of the magnificent bridge will make for a memorable backdrop. For action shots, families and couples can pedal past the fall foliage on the Greenway, a meandering bike trail. You could also toss around the fallen leaves on one of the sprawling lawns.

3. Prospect Park Boathouse

engagement photographyProspect Park is a popular green space in Brooklyn. Because of its grandeur and stunning vistas especially in the fall, many opt for family and engagement photography sessions in the long meadow, near the carousel, near the Prospect Park Lake or in front of the  historic boathouse. Built in 1905, the Beaux Arts-style building is one of the first in the city to receive the historic landmark designation. Your photographer will make sure to capture the nearby Lullwater Bridge in the backdrop.
