From the grocery store to the office, it’s common for people to put out sweet treats during the fall, making you more likely to indulge. While this is fine in moderation, remember to take care of your teeth, or you may need to visit your dentist for dental fillings. Here’s how you can protect your smile.

How to Maintain Your Teeth on Halloween

1. Avoid Sticky Candy

Avoid any candy containing toffee, caramel, taffy, and other sticky ingredients. They stick to your teeth like glue, allowing sugar to sit in your mouth for a long time; As a result, bacteria build up, leading to decay. If they are sticky enough, candies can pull out dental fillings. Instead, go for candies that can be quickly swallowed.

2. Drink Plenty of Water

Whereas, drinking soda and fruit juices worsens the problem and could increase your risk of needing dental fillings.

3. Practice Good Dental Hygiene

Brush your teeth at least twice a day, and floss at least once a day to remove food particles trapped between teeth. Make sure to brush for at least two minutes each time. After eating any snack or meal, wash your mouth out with water, and minimize how much candy you eat in a given day.
