When people think of Halloween, they usually think of pumpkins. However, many people celebrate the spooky season using something else: pineapples. If you want to add an island twist to your Halloween festivities, try these pineapple projects that are both sweet and scary.

How to Celebrate Halloween With Pineapples

Pineapple Jack-O’-Lantern

First, use a sharp knife to cut off the top 1.5 inches of the fruit, keeping the leaves intact. Then, cut around the inside of the skin to remove its insides. Now that it’s hollow, you can take your time carving a spooky face with a small serrated knife. When you’re finished, place a small candle or LED flameless one inside and put the top back on. Put the pineapple jack-o’-lantern outside when darkness falls to give your trick-or-treaters a chillingly tropical surprise.

Pineapple Mummy

Start by taping the end of a roll of white crepe paper to a fresh pineapple and wrap it around the fruit to resemble a mummy, leaving an open space near the top for the eyes. Glue candy eyes to the fruit using black gel frosting, and add plastic spiders to give your mummy a creepy look. After your mummy has frightened party guests and trick-or-treaters, slice it open and enjoy a yummy, celebratory treat.

What to Do With the Insides

pineapplesGive exhausted trick-or-treaters a healthy snack when they return home by combining one cup of fresh pineapple, half a cup of vanilla yogurt, a quarter cup of water, and two crushed ice cubes in a blender. You can also celebrate your love of candy corn in a nutritious way by layering slices of mandarin oranges and pineapple with vanilla yogurt to make a candy corn-colored parfait.

If you’re too tired to whip up snacks, save the filling for the morning after Halloween by making pineapple pancakes. Make regular batter and when the flapjack has been on the griddle for about two minutes, add a pineapple ring, and continue cooking it until it’s golden brown.
