Whether you live in the city or the country, trees can benefit your yard. With proper tree care, they protect your landscaping from soil erosion and slow water runoff. They also keep neighborhoods cool and ensure that the is air clean. If you want to increase the property value of your home and enjoy these beautiful plants, consider adding some of these low-maintenance species.

Plant These Species for Easy Tree Care

1. River Birch (Betula Nigra)

Native to Chicago, this species will add color and texture to your yard. The outer pink or brown bark peels off to show a lighter inside, and the vibrant green leaves turn yellow in the fall. As its name would indicate, these trees will do best if planted near a river or other water source, like a pond. They can grow up to 40 feet tall and 30 feet wide.

2. Colorado Spruce (Picea Pungens)

Cleves Tree CareAlso known as the blue spruce, the trunk of this cone-shaped tree is covered in branches with stiff, blue-green needles. It is native to North America and has foliage year-round. At its tallest, they measure at 60 feet but don’t get more than 20 feet wide. If you have a deer problem, the Colorado Spruce may be your solution. Because of the needles, deer won’t eat it so that you can build a natural barrier around your yard. No tree trimming is required for this species.

3. Crape Myrtle (Lagerstroemia)

These pink- and purple-flowering trees love hot climates. They survive during droughts and bloom much longer than most other trees. While crape myrtle can grow up to 100 feet tall, most only grow to 15-20 feet. To keep the flowers full each year, you will have to conduct minimal tree care and prune each season.
