3 Dentures Care Tips, Sanford, North Carolina

Dentures are a long-term investment, so be sure to keep them in good condition. Like all elements related to your oral health, they require regular, diligent care. Sticking to the following best practices will keep them in pristine condition for years to come.

How to Care for Dentures

1. Take Them Out & Soak Them

Always take your dentures out while you’re sleeping and soak them in a dentist-approved solution. Otherwise, they can dry out in your mouth, which will result in warping and breaking. If this happens, you’ll have to pay for extensive repairs or even invest in a new pair. Soaking them keeps them hydrated and will also help remove decay-causing bacteria and food particles.

2. Handle With Care

denturesDentures are durable, but they’re still susceptible to damage, so always handle them with care. Wash your hands before touching them, and make sure you have a firm grip. If you have mobility issues related to conditions like Parkinson’s disease, have a family member assist you in removing them as needed.

3. Stay On Top of Oral Hygiene

Even though dentures aren’t your natural teeth, you’ll still need to care for them. Brush and floss at least twice a day to fend off decay-causing bacteria and to remove food particles. Make sure you visit the dentist twice a year to check the fit and to get a full oral health exam.
