Car window tinting is a must in a place like Arizona, where the sun beats down nearly 300 days out of the year. Since most vehicles don't automatically come with tinting that’s adequate for this climate, motorists throughout the Grand Canyon State must add it themselves. If you recently invested in tinted windows, here’s how to ensure they last.

Do:

Use microfiber cloths.

When cleaning the windows, use only microfiber cloths to prevent scuffing or marking the film. Soft rubber squeegees are also a viable option for drying tinted windows without damaging them.

Clean the interior.

It’s easy to overlook the interior of your windows, especially if the exterior is always accumulating bird droppings and gnats. Since the film is applied to the inner pane, though, remember to clean the interior of the windows, as well. This will prevent dust and dirt from damaging the tint over time.

Don’t:

Avoid using abrasive rags, brushes, or sponges near the edges of the windows. If you compromise the tint, it will start peeling until eventually the entire film has to be replaced.

Apply harsh chemicals.

Try not to use products that contain ammonia when cleaning tinted windows. A simple solution of rubbing alcohol, gentle baby soap, and distilled water is ideal for producing a stunning shine while still preserving the film. After mixing two tablespoons of alcohol, a few pumps of soap, and a couple cups of water in a spray bottle, use the solution to clean your windows inside and out.
