If your dishwasher is leaking water, there are several parts that could be at fault. Many of them are easy to fix yourself using appliance parts from a local supplier. Here’s a list of five.

Appliance Parts to Fix Your Dishwasher

1. Latch

Water may leak around the door if it doesn’t close securely. Try tightening the latch with a screwdriver. If the latch is broken, unscrew it and install a new one.

2. Gasket

Another reason for a leaky dishwasher is a cracked, loose, or degraded gasket. The gasket is the rubber lining around the perimeter of the door that seals it shut. Look all around the edge for any loose spots or breaks to determine whether you need a new gasket.

3. Hoses

Appliance PartsYour dishwasher has a drain hose and a recirculation hose made of rubber or plastic. Check the connections of each and the clamps holding them to make sure they're secure. Also, inspect the condition of the hoses. If they have cracks, replace them with new hoses from an appliance parts supplier.

4. Valve

Your appliance’s water inlet valve may be stuck or corroded, allowing extra water to pass through. Locate the water inlet valve behind the bottom plate in your dishwasher. If it’s dripping, shut off the water supply to stop the leak until you can replace the valve.

5. Shims

If your dishwasher doesn’t sit squarely on the floor, water will tend to leak out. Take the bottom tray out and check the level. If it’s not true, add shims—thin pieces of material such as washers—beneath the dishwasher’s legs to even out any tilt.
