If someone you love ends up behind bars, you’ll need a good bail bond agency—and fast. The sooner you hire a bondsman, the sooner life can go back to normal. If this is your first time posting bail, though, you may not know where to turn. Thankfully, you can find a reputable agency in no time by keeping the following qualities in mind.

3 Qualities to Look For in a Bail Bond Agency

1. Compliance

Under state law, agencies cannot charge any more than 10% of the total bail amount as their fee. If an agency attempts to charge you more, they are violating the law—and that's not someone you want to do business with.

2. Transparency

Before signing on the dotted line, though, confirm the terms of the financing, including the minimum payment, the due date, the interest rate, and all potential late fees. If the agency doesn't provide this information upfront, you should be wary of working with them. When it comes to any kind of financial transaction, you deserve total transparency.

3. Experience

While every agency was new at some point, it’s wise to turn to one that has a track record of success. Their bondsmen will know how to get suspects released as quickly as possible—and with fewer headaches—because they'll already be familiar with the bail proceedings at the different local jails.

Employee Spotlight

bail bondsAgent: Chad Hanson, with AnyTime since 2012

Desired Superpower: Invincibility

Spirit Animal: A German Shepard because they protect. I’m a protector.

Pets: None, but I have four kids, ages ranging from 3 to 14 years old, so it’s a lot like a zoo.

Naughtiest thing you did as a child: I set my bedroom closet on fire when I was young. I was a little pyro, but it was accidental. As a teen, I broke a lot of rules but never got caught. I saw my friends get caught and learned from that instead of repeating the behavior and getting busted myself.

Favorite MN sports team: Vikings. I’m a huge fan, and I’m heartbroken every year.

Favorite Twin Cities spot to dine: Cossetta’s! I take my whole family. We love it!

Favorite store to max out credit card: Costco. I buy in bulk—go big or go home.

Why you love MN: I am not sure why (LOL). If I win the lottery, I would move somewhere warm. I’m not here because I love the weather. I was born, raised, and never moved away. My family is here—family first.

Disney Character Twin: I’m Mr. Incredible for sure. I’m a dad—a superhero. The source of my power is my incredible kids.

Best thing about being a bail bond agent with AnyTime: It’s flexible, and I’m able to make my own hours. I love hearing people’s stories, and everybody has one. I have met many genuine, good-hearted people who have simply just slipped up and made a mistake. We all make them. I’ve seen that it’s not the mistake that defines a person, but it’s how they react after making it. You either let history repeat itself, or you learn and recover from it.
