Stainless steel is an excellent material to have in your home. It’s an extremely durable metal that adds a modern feel to fixtures and surfaces, such as countertops or door frames. While this material shines beautifully, it’s prone to becoming streaked with dirt and fingerprints quite easily. However, it can be cleaned with just as much ease. Here are five ways to remove grime and prevent future stains on stainless steel.

How to Remove Stains on Stainless Steel

1. Glass Cleaner

A basic glass cleaner that contains ammonia can often get the job done. The chemicals in the cleaner dissolve greasy fingerprints instantly and will leave a streak-free shine. To clean, spray the solution onto a microfiber cloth and wipe in circular motions. Then, use a clean microfiber cloth to dry the surface.

2. Soap & Water

steelFor an easy solution, clean your stainless steel fixture with warm water and mild dish soap. Using a soft cloth and the soapy mixture, buff out the streaks in a circular motion.

3. White Vinegar

Pure white vinegar will remove tough surface stains left on your steel fixtures. Use a diluted blend of vinegar and water to clean the rest of the metal, and then use a water-dampened towel to remove the leftover acid from the vinegar. This solution can be corrosive over time, so it’s important to wipe away any excess vinegar.

3. Club Soda

Club soda prevents oil and fingerprint stains on metal. Using a soft cloth, spray some club soda onto the surface and polish the area. The soda will leave a nice shine.

4. Olive or Baby Oil

To keep the surface shining longer, you can add one more step to your cleaning process. Using a soft cloth and a few drops of olive oil or baby oil, wipe down the entire fixture. This will give your metal a beautiful shine. You can also substitute lemon juice in place of the oil.
