3 Tips for Maintaining a Saltwater Swimming Pool, 10, Illinois

A saltwater swimming pool is an exotic and low-maintenance luxury. Unlike standard custom swimming pools, they require few chemicals. To keep yours in top condition, consult the following pool maintenance guide. Also, consider securing weekly maintenance services from a reputable contractor to perform equipment and chemistry checks as well as debris removal.

How to Care for a Saltwater Pool

1. Clear the Filter

A filter gathers much of the debris that would otherwise make its way into your pool. When a filter clogs, it may impact water flow and strain the pool’s pump. Clean filters every few weeks, including leaf baskets, to keep the water in your custom swimming pool clear. You can also backwash the filter to clear debris from deep inside your pumping system.

2. Clean, Scrub & Vacuum

3. Clean the Generator

A saltwater pool requires a salt-chlorine generator to function. Over time, salt residue builds up on the cell and causes the generator to overwork. Mildew and algae also may grow in your pool if the generator doesn’t produce enough chlorine to keep the water’s chemistry in balance. Every three months blast your custom swimming pool’s generator and cell with the hose. Hosing will help extend the life of this equipment beyond its typical five-year span.
