Creating an eerie atmosphere is the first step to throwing a spooky Halloween party. From haunted houses to old horror movies, fog makes these settings scarier, so use dry ice to achieve the same effect at home. To figure out how much to order from an ice supplier, below are a few suggestions on how to use dry ice at Halloween festivities.

3 Ways to Use Dry Ice in Halloween Decor

1. Eerie Jack-O′-Lantern

Jack-o’-lanterns are Halloween decor staples, so feature several at the party. Place flameless candles in some of them to illuminate the designs, then put dry ice in others. The flowing fog combined with the candlelight will make the decorations spookier.

Using tongs, put a large piece of dry ice in a bowl, and place the bowl in the center of the hollow pumpkin. Pour warm water over it to create more mist. Based on how many pumpkins you have and the size of each, an ice supplier can tell you how much product to order.

2. Spooky Cauldron

Make the centerpiece of the food and beverage table the punch bowl by creating the illusion of a witch’s elixir brewing in a steamy, bubbly cauldron. You’ll need the ingredients to make the party drink, plus tongs, a large pot to put the dry ice in, and a smaller plastic bowl to hold the punch.

3. Fog Bubbles

Use dry ice to create mysterious fog bubbles. They’ll look like the floating orbs seen on ghost sighting videos.

You’ll need a two-liter plastic soda bottle. Cut a hole at the top, then put dry ice and warm water in the container.

Place a funnel upside-down over the bottle. Insert a long, rubber tube at the other end of the funnel.

The other end of the tube should poke through a plastic cup. Put the open end of the cup in a bowl of soap. The dry ice will flow through the tube and reach the soap, creating a fog bubble.
