A well-maintained grass field not only adds beauty to a building's exterior but also prevents soil erosion and cools areas around it. If you're reseeding a lawn or starting a new one, you should water your grass seeds regularly, either manually or with an irrigation system. Below are some tips to make sure your new seed is getting the moisture it needs.

How to Water New Grass Seeds

1. Know Your Soil & Plants

There are appropriate grasses for each soil type. How often you water depends on the kind of soil and grass you have. For instance, you may need to irrigate sandy soil more frequently than loam, clay, and silt because it doesn’t retain as much water.

2. Water Before Sowing

To have a healthy lawn, create a moist environment for new seeds. Prepare your planting area by watering it to a depth of 6 to 8 inches. To determine whether you've saturated the soil deeply enough, insert a long stick or screwdriver into the ground. If it reaches down to the prescribed depth without much resistance, then you know the soil is properly saturated.

3. Turn On the Sprinklers Two or Three Times a Day

For a worry-free approach to lawn watering, consider installing an irrigation system so you’ll know your lawn isn't getting too much or too little water.
