Homeowners may choose to replace their windows if they’re energy-inefficient, worn or rotted, or no longer complement a home’s style. Before you discard old windows for good, consider repurposing them to give them a second life. Here are three creative and ideas for reusing windows.

What to Do With Old Windows

1. Create a Unique Picture Frame

Embrace your inner artisan and add a personalized touch to your home by transforming a set of old casement windows into picture frames. First, gather supplies. You’ll need sturdy cardboard, photographs, and bevel-cut mats to hold photos sturdily in place. Sand frames down to achieve an old-world look, or paint them a bright color to enliven a room. When dry, insert photos and mats into each pane and back with cardboard.

2. Transform Frames Into Wall Art

windowsYou don’t have to be a master craftsman to fashion a work of art from an old window. Paint or paper the frame, and hang it as a conversation piece, or affix it to a piece of lumber to make a shelf. You could also stretch canvas around a frame and paint a landscape or an abstract design to hang over a sofa or settee.

3. Design an Eclectic Coffee Table

If you’re handy with a drill and don’t mind using a hammer and hardware, you can create an attractive table. Start by thoroughly sanding a window to remove existing paint, and then apply a rich stain of your choice. Finish by building table legs and a base with several pieces of lumber stained to match the tabletop. Take your color cues from the room where you plan to place the table. You can rejuvenate a den or living room with a statement table worthy of a designer’s showroom.
