If you have trouble seeing, it can be challenging to choose what type of eyewear you want to purchase. Glasses are a long-term investment, and you want to get the most from them. Since they are such an integral part of your day-to-day life, you want them to stay clean and free of scratches or other damage. They require specific care, and you’ll need to stick to a few proven care practices. Whether you’re a long-term wearer or new to glasses, use the following guide to keep them safe and clean.

Do:

Clean them regularly.

Smudges, fingerprints, debris, and other particles will inevitably build up on your glasses' lenses and frames, so you should clean them regularly. Wash your hands before touching them and carefully rub the lenses and frames to remove particles.

Use the right products.

glasses-oxford, OHGlasses lenses are sensitive, so only use approved cleaning products. Lukewarm water and dishwashing liquid are effective, and you can also purchase a cleaner directly from the manufacturer. Avoid household cleaners, and never wipe them with your shirt or a paper towel, as this may scratch them. Ideally, use a microfiber cloth or let them air-dry.

Don’t:

Forget the case.

You should always have a case handy. Storing your glasses loosely in a bag, clipping them to your shirt, or setting them on a bedside table opens the door for accidents. Invest in several cases so you can have one at work, in your car, or in your school locker.

Skip eye exams.

Your eyes can change, and your prescription may need to be updated, so stay on top of eye exams. Your eye doctor can check that nothing is impacting your eye health and that your vision problems aren’t tied to eye diseases and other more severe complications. They can also adjust prescriptions so that you don’t encounter eye strain or other issues impacting your ability to see.
