If you hate running in place for an hour on the treadmill every time you go to the fitness center, you’re not alone. Many people have trouble finding the motivation to exercise if they’re not doing something they find fun. If you think you’re not a fan of cardio, there are some cardio exercises that might change your mind.

3 New Types of Cardio to Try

1. Jumping Rope

You probably jumped rope at some point during your childhood, but you might be surprised to know it’s a great cardio exercise you can do as an adult. One study found that jumping rope for 10 minutes a day is equal to jogging for 30 minutes, making it one of the most effective cardio choices. It requires you to pay attention more than jogging, which keeps your brain engaged.

You also get a full-body workout, increasing your heart rate, burning calories, and strengthening your arms and back. Try out some different patterns once you get the hang of it, like single leg or double jump.

2. Trying Interval Training

fitness-center-Lithonia-GAHigh-Intensity Interval Training — or HIIT — is a fantastic way to exercise for less time while seeing more results.

This practice involves doing very intense cardio in short bursts, usually between 20 and 90 seconds. Between these bursts, you take breaks.

This type of exercise has been shown to increase metabolism, boost endurance, and reduce body fat more effectively than regular cardio. You can try it out by sprinting or climbing stairs. There are also many exercise classes that use this method.

3. Spinning

Taking a spin class is a fantastic way to try some new cardio in a social and exciting setting. Your instructor will play music that will pump you up, and the energy in the room will be electric.

Spinning burns calories, builds muscle, and increases endurance. Most fitness centers offer these classes regularly, so there’s no reason not to give one a try.
