Even in today’s high-tech offices, a malfunctioning copier can still bring everything to a halt. While electrical problems and software errors usually call for a copier repair professional, there are many common issues you can handle on your own. Below are a few troubleshooting tricks to try before calling a technician.

How to Troubleshoot Common Copier Issues

1. Skewed Copies

If you’re dealing with skewed copies or persistent paper jams, start by checking to make sure the drawer has been loaded correctly. Take out all of the paper, remove any bent or curled sheets, and put it back in the drawer. If your copies are still coming out skewed or the paper keeps jamming, try putting the stack in another drawer and running a few test copies.

2. Lines or Marks on Copies

Otherwise, you may be able to resolve the issue by cleaning both panes of glass with ordinary cleanser. Just remember to spray it onto a soft cloth, not directly onto the glass.

3. Error Codes

Error codes can be extremely frustrating, but many can be fixed with a simple reset. First, turn off the sub-switch on the control panel. When the light on the start button turns off, turn off the main switch and wait approximately 20 seconds. Turn the machine back on by hitting the main switch first, then the sub-switch. If the error code is still present when the machine comes back on, you may need to call a copier repair service.
