Only ten years ago, I surveyed the new patients coming into my general dental practice located in Clearwater, Florida.  Clearwater is part of the larger Tampa Bay community.  Although I care for patients age 12 years and up, the bulk of my business is 30 years and older.  The socio-economic status of these patients crosses all strata.  The majority live locally that is within a 30 mile drive.  However I have more and more coming from all distances as far as other southern states.  

Ten years ago, our intake forms surveying the patients understanding of the oral-systemic health connection showed one in ten believing their oral health and total body health were related.  Today 49 out of 50 recognize there is a clear relationship between oral health and their systemic health.  There is a growing public knowledge and interest in this relationship.
