Get the entire family into the fall festivities by doing fun craft projects with your children. It’s an excellent way to decorate the home and bond with the family, and it doesn’t have to cost too much money. That’s because there are some fantastic craft ideas that utilize supplies found in your home’s recycle bin. Rather than taking everything down to the recycling center, reuse these common items for this autumn’s craft projects.

Crafting Ideas for Recycle Bin Materials

1. Decorative Indian Corn

Pumpkins, gourds, and corn are all fall time staples, and handcrafted maize makes for great seasonal decorations. Cut out corn-shaped pieces of construction paper and take any used Bubble Wrap® out of the recycle bin and cover the paper with it. Then, let the kids paint the bubbles to give the decoration a beautiful, colorful, and textured appearance.

2. Stick Scarecrows

Recycle BinsRather than filling dumpsters up with flavored ice sticks, reuse them to craft cute little scarecrows to decorate the home. Give each child eight sticks, a festively colored piece of construction paper, and a stick of glue. Use seven of the sticks in a row vertically to form the scarecrow’s face and the eighth laid horizontally across the others to be the brim of its hat. The children can then paint the hat any color they want and then use cutout paper to create the face.

3. Magazine Collage Tree

Take any unused magazines out of the recycle bin and have the kids cut them out into various leaf-shaped pieces. Then, let them paint the pieces into fall fun colors like red, yellow, and orange before gluing them onto a piece of paper in the shape of a tree. Finally, you can either let the kids color in the trunk of the tree or use brown construction paper to tie the project together.
