When you file a Chapter 7 bankruptcy in Connecticut, you usually do not have to appear in court.  In a Chapter 7, wherein you get a complete fresh start, you appear at the so-called 341 meeting, which is not before a Judge.  This happens about a month after you file.  He you are asked questions about the bankruptcy petition you signed in order to see if there are any changes, additions or omissions.  The most important issues are whether or not you have non-exempt assets that might be available to creditors, which most often is not the case.  If there is anything untoward in the rest of the schedules, the Trustee may ask about it.  Your attorney will prepare you for this.  It takes 5-10 minutes and you are done.  Assuming everything is in order, your discharge will come through a few months later.  If you have any further questions on 341 meetings, please feel free to call Attorney Mark O. Grater, representing New London County, located in Groton, CT at 860-449-8059 or visit his web cite at  www.graterlaw.com.
