Seafood is an integral part of every diet, and most people don’t get enough of it. This is especially true for children who are picky eaters. If they are hesitant to try fish, crab, oysters, and other seafood, try the following tips at home or at a seafood restaurant.

3 Ways to Get Children to Like Seafood

1. Disguise It

Many children don’t like seafood simply because of how it looks. Disguise it so it looks like foods they enjoy. A fried fish sandwich can look exactly like chicken, and fish sticks can easily mimic chicken fingers. Try fish tacos or a fish stew. You’ll find all these options at a seafood restaurant, or you can try making them together at home.

2. Use Sauces

Ketchup, honey mustard, ranch, and barbecue, all have a place in seafood. Drizzle honey to tone down fish flavors or try cocktail sauce for something unique. An easy dish to start with is fish and chips.

3. Offer a Variety

Some people simply don't like fish, but seafood offers plenty of variety. Your child may be more interested in shellfish or a different cooking method. If they aren’t enjoying tuna, salmon, and grouper, offer oysters and clams. They can also try lobster, shrimp, and crab. Serve sashimi instead of a grilled salmon steak. Offer a gumbo rather than raw oysters. There are countless ways to enjoy seafood, and your child will eventually find one they like.
